If you've never performed in a recording studio, there are definite steps you will follow to achieve your best effort. You may be recording alone or with a group. In each case we will set up a click track, or metronome, if you wish. In your headphones, you will hear your tempo, as well as your instrument or voice. We may ask you to play or sing each selection a number of times. This will permit us to make a composite of your performance. This means that the final recording will actually be a number of audio objects that are joined together. The method of joining these audio objects is called a crossfade. The crossfade will be silent. The listener will not be able to tell where it occurs. After we have recorded your tracks, we will set up an editing session. This is when we set the levels and automation of each track, set the equalization and effects, and perform timing and pitch corrections.
